It’s a dilemma for a job-seeker in the online age: How do you let it be known you’re looking for a new position without tipping off your current employer? After all, if a recruiter can see that you’re in the market for a new gig, so can your boss, right?
Help has arrived from LinkedIn.
Open Candidates is a new feature that allows you to privately signal to recruiters your availability for a new opportunity. You can go so far as to specify the types of companies and roles you’re interested in. The recruiters who use LinkedIn to find talent – which is to say, just about all of them – can see your preferences. Recruiters at your current company, or those affiliated with it, can’t.
Head to the LinkedIn Jobs home page, click the Preferences tab and turn sharing “On.” Fill in some brief information about your search and you’re good to go. You can change or update those preferences at any time.
Remember that once a recruiter spots you, their next step will be to check out your profile. Make sure it’s completely up to date and paints the picture of you that you want a recruiter to see.
